Baring all for Playboy at seventeen, the full-lipped blonde became the Breck shampoo girl, a top model, and, ultimately, a full-fledged screen star. During the eighties, she became famous for her affair with Prince, steamy sex scenes in 9 1/2 Weeks, and bad behavior during The Marrying Man. After that film, she turned Alec Baldwin into a marrying man.
Basinger went on a shopping spree in 1989, buying Braselton, Georgia. Unfortunately, her finances were less than stable. She was sued for pulling out of Boxing Helena, and, in 1993, she had to declare bankruptcy.
The New York Times reported that while creditors and Braselton locals have gone broke as a result of her bankruptcy, Basinger still had three dreamy houses and was spending $31,000 a month on clothes, pets, and an ex-husband, Ron Britton. She has since sold off most of the town. She reached an out-of-court settlement with Main Line over Boxing Helena, four years and millions of dollars after the fact.
She and Alec celebrated the birth of their first child by having Baldwin punch out a photographer.

Partenaire idéale pour les stars sexy et mâles d'Hollywood, elle brouille l'image: stripteaseuse culte ou alcoolo délirante, ses rôles sont très loin de ce que Basinger représente, une bombe sexuelle. Ex-playmate de Playboy qui chauffe les celluloïdes, Kim ne fait que symboliser la gloire d'une amérique opulante.
Le summum sera atteint avec son personnage de Vicky Vale, fantasme Batmanien, scandaleusement sussuré par Prince.

Epousant Alec Baldwin, elle traverse le désert...Basinger devient la Bardot américaine. Défendant les bêtes jusqu'à extrême. A croire que la beauté et l'animalité sont jumelles.
Très dépensière, elle est aussi très caractérielle. Elle signe pour Boxing Helena, puis se dérobe à ses obligations. Procès. Elle perd quelques millions.
En 97, Kim revient sur les écrans. Cannes (passage ombré par Kevin Spacey). Toronto. L.A.Confidential est un hit coté critiques. Ironiquement elle y joue un symbole du glamour, en incarnant le sosie d'une star des fifties. Et c'est à Woody Allen de lui modeler sa nouvelle silhouette...en 98.
