Anne Murray
Born: June 20, 1945 Murray grew up with five brothers and the only daughter of a physician James Carson Murray and his wife Marion Margaret, a trained nurse.
She enjoyed pop and folk music while in high school and in 1964, when in her second year at the University of New Brunswick (where she received a degree in physical education), she auditioned for the CBC-TV show Singalong Jubilee. She didn"t get the job, since there were enough altos in the cast, but co-host and associate producer Bill Langstroth tracked her down two years later and convinced her to join the show.
Giving up her brief career as a physical education teacher, Murray has never looked back. She married Langstroth in 1975, settled in Toronto.
Her first album was "What About Me", released in 1968 on the little Canadian Arc label. Her first big hits were "Snowbird", in 1970 (on "This Is My Way") and "Danny"s Song", in 1973 (on "Danny"s Song).
Her worldwide album sales are in excess of 24 million and her records have attained multi-platinum status in North America and Australia, and silver status in the UK. "You Needed Me" was No. 1 in Malaysia for 10 straight weeks and won her a Grammy in 1978.
There have been 4 Grammys in total, three American Music Awards, three Country Music Association Awards, three Canadian Country Music Association Awards, 25 Juno Awards, and was inducted into the Juno Hall of Fame in 1993.
In November of 1995, Anne was presented with the prestigious Governor General"s Award, which is given to Canadians of "extraordinary talent and accomplishment." She is a Companion of the Order of Canada, has been inducted into Nashville"s Walkway of Stars, has her own star at Hollywood and Vine in Los Angeles, and in 1989 the Anne Murray Centre opened in her hometown of Springhill, N.S.
She"s performed for capacity crowds at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall in New York City, The Palladium in London, England, and the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto, and Murray has opened in Vegas while Frank Sinatra played across the street
.
Over the years her many CBS and CBC television specials have reached millions of fans the world over. In 1996 Murray released her 30th, and self-titled, LP on EMI and recorded a TV special for the CBC based on guest appearances featured on the disc by Bryan Adams, and Jann Arden among others.

Anne Murray est née le 20 juin 1945 et elle grandit avec 5 frères, elle était la seule fille du docteur James Carson Murray et de sa femme Mariion Margaret, une infirmière diplomée.
Elle a toujours aimé le "pop and folk" durant ses années de college. En 1964, durant sa deuxième année à l"Université du Nouveau Brunswick, où elle reçu un diplome en éducation physique, elle auditionna pour la CBC-TV, pour le programme Singalong Jubilee.
Elle ne fut pas choisie, dû au fait qu"il y avait assez de chanteuses alto dans le groupe. Mais le producteur associé Bill Langstroth la suivit et deux ans après lui demanda de rejoindre le programme.
Laissant sa brève carrière de professeure en éducation physique, elle ne le regrettera jamais.
Elle se maria Langstroth en 1975 à Toronto.
Son premier disque fût "What About Me" en 1968 avec le "Canadian Arc label"
Sa chanson fétiche fut toujours "Snowbird" sur son disque "This is my way" en 1970 et en 1973 avec le disque "Danny"s Song".
